Hello and welcome to my time machine. Let's head on back to the time when long hair, tight spandex pants, and makeup on men's rock musicians were the norms. Yes, leaving the 70s where long hair wasn't abnormal, rockers in the 80s took hair and rock music to the next level. If we only knew then how popular hair spray would become we could have invested in hair spray companies and made lots of money! Ok, so without getting too long-winded, let me say this...in 1990 XM radio came out, and in 2002 Sirius satellite radio joined the party (now Sirius/XM), and the time machine that music lovers needed was born, and the amount of awesome commercial-free music you could listen to anywhere in the country while driving was incredible. Since I'm a truck driver, it was a no-brainer for me to subscribe to it. Yes yes, I'm getting to the point...don't get your panties in a bunch! I suppose like most people—depending on your mood—you flip around the dial to suit your needs. Me too...still, I seem lately to be stuck just full-out hair nation— which really is the 80s and 90s— and it made me think 🤔 . Hmm...so many great 80’s bands and lots of one-hit wonders for sure, but the real question ladies and gentlemen is if YOU had to choose 5 hair bands to define the decade of the 80s who would they be?. I'm talking from January 1980 to December 1989...what bands were the true sound that defined the sound of the 80s since Nirvana killed hair metal for the most part with their debut album "Bleach" released in June of 1989. I'll give you my picks in no particular order of favorite bands. I'm again talking about the bands that shaped and defined the 80s and influenced the 90s. Are you ready? 1. Skid Row...although they joined the party late with their self-titled album "Skid Row" in Jan 1989, they came out swinging and helped rock the shit out of the 90s as well 2. Ratt hit the ground running in 1983 with their self-titled album "Ratt" with only 6 songs, but really got their mojo with the release of their 1984 album titled "Out Of The Cellar" and never looked back. 3. Bon Jovi, another class of 1984 with their self-titled debut album "Bon Jovi" and the hit song "Runaway." 4. Deff Leppard...holy shit...talk about a band with tons of hits! Their debut album "On Thru The Night" was released in March 1980 and totally became the sound of the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. 5. Twisted Sister with their debut album "Under The Blade" dropped in Sept 1982, but their 3rd album "Stay Hungry" released April 27th, 1984 really made them, with the number 1 smash hit "We're Not Gonna Take It", pretty much the anthem song of the 80s. So? There are my 5...let's get your 5 and your thoughts on the decade of hair and heavy metal music.
